"Do not be afraid..."
Being afraid has halted me numerous times in my life, leading to many missed worthy opportunities. When God is telling us, "Do not be afraid," He is telling us not to be struck by fear. Fear as defined on Google, is a strong unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm. God is reassuring us in Isaiah 43:1-2 that with Him, we need not worry about danger, pain, or harm for He will be walking with us. He will protect us and comfort us. A friend asked me what this verse meant to me and my reply was this...
"Before age 14, I was fearless. Then life hit hard and fear has run my life ever since. Personally, I was even afraid of God. Shame and guilt left me afraid to stand before Him. Fear of his judgement, but I was the one judging myself. In May, I saw God at work in me. It wasn't pleasant because I am stubborn and had to learn the hard way. Since May, He has changed me. He has comforted me, provided for me, and as scary as things are right now; I am not really afraid because He is in control now, not me."
So I ask you, what does Isaiah 43:1-2 mean to you? What has God provided for you? What storm has He walked you through? What pain did He cover with His comfort? God's faithfulness is never changing and never ending. He will and does provide for all of us. He calls us by name and proclaims us as His.
