"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble
of it's own.
Matthew 6:34 (NIV)
This verse is especially important to me because it is speaking on excessive worry like you deal with when you have chronic generalized anxiety disorder. Being an individual who deals with anxiety on a daily basis, I know what a challenge not worrying excessively can be. As I have mentioned in my other writings, the worst of my illness in May 2026 was from a severe allergic reaction to Doxycycline. Before the tick bite, I had no allergies and afterwards, I am allergic to just about everything. I had been taking the antibiotic for about two weeks before my ex-husband was able to piece everything together. The inability to walk unassisted, the hightend anxiety, and finally the esophageal and full body spasms. All were from the Doxycycline. Dealing with the hightend anxiety was tough.
Matthew 6:34 is part of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount which is found in Matthew 5 -7. This is Jesus' teachings on how a Christian and follower of Jesus is to live. In verse 6:34, Jesus is teaching that we are to trust God to handle all our situations and therefore worry and anxiety are senseless. We are supposed to be living one day at a time and resting easy in the present moment because we know our God is in control of all our days. If we trust that God is in charge then there is no reason for worry and anxiety. We are to trust that God's grace is sufficient enough to handle anything we face.
Generalized anxiety disorder and excessive worry are not necessarily within our full control but when we notice ourselves becoming more anxious or worried we can turn to God whose love for us is endless and trust His Will to be done. He will be the strength we need to fight and beat a very hard and persistent battle such as an anxiety disorder. So today and every day ask God to cover you with His mercy, love, and grace. Then trust Him to provide you with His strength to help in this battle. Try taking your focus off your worries and placing it on God. Breathe, spend time in His word, and get to know Him on a more intimate level. Our God is an awesome God and He will provide your every need. All He asks is that you trust Him enough to follow and obey Him.
May God keep you
In His loving embrace
today and every day.
